We have always known that Mom was a strong individual. We did not realize how strong, until she was diagnosed with ALS. During her disease, she kept her sense of humor and never once asked, "Why me". She was a widow at the age of 29 with three children to raise. She was both mother and father to us. Mom demonstrated a strong work ethic and a compassion for helping others. She usually told us what she thought, whether we wanted to hear it or not.
There isn't a day that goes by, that she is not thought of and missed by her family. Just the other day I heard some news that I wanted to share with Mom. I reached for the phone....... then remembered that she is no longer with us. Instantly the pain of losing her had once again returned in full force. We rejoice that she is with our Heavenly Father, that her body and voice are stronger than ever.
Nobody will ever go through this horrible disease or any other disease with the will, the courage, the dignity and the determination that Mom did. Several of our lives have changed so much from watching her go through this experience the past 3 years.
Her successes are not final, her failures not fatal. Her courage is what counted - the courage to continue living every day while she fought the terrible disease ALS. Her success is her family who will find the courage to go forward in life.

Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
