As a family physician in small town Vermont, I am deeply involved with ALS care. Despite the stated incidence of ALS at 2/100,000 people, I currently care for 2 ALS-diagnosed individuals and their families as well as a recent young widow of an ALS patient . The population of Addison County, VT is 37,578 by 2022 Census. My practice is limited to 400 individuals, and I am not selecting for ALS! The gravity of this diagnosis and its intense impact are not lost on me. This is a diagnosis that I have watched generate incredible courage and community. We are all looking to research to change the course of this disease and I am walking out of love and support for those I know who carry this diagnosis and to raise money for those who are doing research on disease modifying treatments.
