This is one of my favorite photos in the world, with one of my favorite people in the world (in the photo, on the far right); Nancy Luke. (I’m in the center, but I’m pretty sure anyone looking at this knows that?!
I THINK this was taken in the summer of 2009, when we may have been practicing for the Addison County Topless Mermaid Water Follies to be presented later that summer, but, don’t hold me to that. I’ve purposefully blocked out the details from that day for reasons anyone who has ever pled the Fifth Amendment can appreciate.)
Anyway, back to Nancy. She is one of the strongest, kindest, multi-talented, generous, good natured, good humored, naturally cool persons I have ever known. For Over 30 years!
When Nancy shared her ALS diagnosis with her Large community of friends, we were stricken, but, quickly resolved to help her in any way we could. This now includes joining the annual Walk to Defeat ALS to raise funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To help Nancy in time please?! And, others like her; to ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider joining me or making a donation. No amount is too small! Every bit helps. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. THANK YOU, thank you, for your support. Love,
