Lynn William Hinman (1935 - 2010)
Our Captain Courageous was a beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Partner and Friend. Lynn was inspirational to us through his wonderful sense of humor, his personal resilience, and positive outlook. Lynn embraced life. He loved hosting family gatherings and 'grandpa camp'. He loved sailing on Lake Champlain on his own and also sharing a gin and tonic while watching the sunset over the lake with his friends and family. Lynn loved the theater, music and opera as much as he loved attending a Boston Red Sox or a UVM basketball game or maple-sugaring with family and friends. He loved traveling throughout the US as much as he enjoyed the serenity of a morning hike in the backwoods of his home in Middlebury with our lab -TJ.

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
