The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. Progress has been made in all areas!
This link is open beyond this event, so feel free to donate even if it's after the 2022 Walk (and before the November 2023 Walk).
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
My Dad, the most good hearted and loyal and honest and reliable person ever, was diagnosed and passed within 2 years. At that time, the ALS OC chapter was on speed dial for me, and my outbound calls and questions never stopped because ALS can progress so fast. I’m so grateful for the resources and equipment they provided and the support they offer to so many caregivers, patients and families (like us). It’s why I still stay involved, fundraise, and volunteer with them. It’s hard to navigate this disease. Shortcuts, supplements, best practices, any info… for most patients and families, it's desperation and urgent. This chapter sees newly diagnosed patients often. There are 200+ families the OC Chapter serves at ANY given time. We share, learn, laugh, cry, and continue to fight for a cure. The money raised towards this chapter is mostly for patient care and research, hardly any for operations. We are in this to make a real impact.
With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. Thanks Friends!!
