This year will mark our third year walking in the annual " Defeat ALS Walk" on November 9th. While we are grateful that John's progression has been slow, we never know what challenge we will be faced with each day, so we will continue to walk for those who can't and so that all PALS and their families have access to support groups, equipment loans, access to transportation, educational seminars and much more. Each and every walker brings us one step closer to a cure. I hope you will join us.
This has been a fast year for us with one set-back . . .John fell and broke his hip in December. Although no surgery was required, he was unable to put any weight on the hip for 12 weeks. It has taken a bit longer to get back on his feet, but as you would expect, his frame of mind is positive and he is slowly getting back to his walking.
ABOUT ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
