I am walking in memory of my dad James Deakin. This will be my 7th Walk to Defeat ALS and am so thankful for this generous community.
In December 2017, my sweet, goofy Dad was diagnosed with ALS. The progression was devastatingly fast. In only August of that year, he had been playing with my toddler in the ocean waves and burying her in the sand. We were incredibly heartbroken to lose him only six months after the diagnosis. We do not want anyone else to suffer with ALS.
That is why I am walking. Please donate or join my team! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
What is ALS? Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure. The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families. Let’s keep the progress going!
THANK YOU to all our amazing friends and family who have walked, donated, and supported us! We love you!
