Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS is truly important to me because my grandpa, Papa Turf, was recently diagnosed with ALS and his illness has personally affected my family. What made my papa’s diagnosis even more difficult was finding out that there is not only no cure for ALS, but that there aren’t even any treatment options or medications to help slow the progression of ALS. Hearing that there really isn’t anything we can do to help my papa is really hard to accept. That’s why I decided to do something to support my papa and all of those affected by ALS by trying to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly affects one’s ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can affect anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why I’m walking, to hope one day find a cure for ALS. And in the meantime, to bring hope to those living with the disease like my papa.
Your donation can help improve advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease just like my papa.
