On June 1, 2006 Herb McGuire "quietly changed addresses" as he lost his battle with ALS. To be without him for 15+ years seems impossible, but his memory continues to live on. 

This year, on October 6, 2024 Herb's Giants will walk for our 15th consecutive year in loving memory of the giant himself, my Dad Herb. It may only be one day a year, but to be surrounded by so many who understand life with ALS is truly unique. The support that Herb’s Giants receives year after year is humbling, and remains a reminder that though my Dad is no longer here physically, the strength of his memory lives on through many. Thank you never seems like enough when it comes to the yearly support received from those who walk with us, those who donate monetarily, and those who are with us in spirit; but I genuinely thank you.

Why We Need Your Help

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer.
