It is that time again!  Yes, it is  time for start fundraising for the SC Midlands Walk to Defeat ALS. Why We Need Your Help

 Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. Even though their brain and mind are fine, they lose the ability to breathe and eventually don't get enough oxygen to live.  The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. Rusty lived from 2005, when he had his first symptom of an uncontrollable foot, until April 21, 2011 when he was no longer able to breathe on his own.  He could not talk, swallow, or move anything below his neck, but his mind, thoughts, love for his family and friends, sense of humor, and smile were all intact.  This disease has got to be stopped!

 Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.  There have been people as young as 18 diagnosed so it is not an "old person" disease.

 This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. If they don't have great insurance, this can really be devastating.  Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
