This marks 11 years since David has passed away.  You would think it would be easier as time goes by but sadly that is not the case.  I can still hear him come in the front door!

David was diagnosed with ALS in 2010. It doesn’t seem possible but he passed away in 2013.  You have helped me raise a great deal of money to help with the deadly disease. It’s been said many times that once you receive the diagnosis – it is a death sentence.  Some have said it would be better to go quickly, I just don’t know. There are times when I think both conclusions are right. It is good to finalize everything with your loved one but it VERY difficult no matter what.

There has been some progress made in fighting this disease but we are nowhere near the finish line.  I am sure you read about the death of the young man who inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge.  He was so young!  When we went to John’s Hopkins for a second opinion, we saw so many young men who had developed this disease. David remarked many times he was thankful for his life!

I know you receive requests for all sorts of campaigns….the difference is that they have a cure and/or medications….ALS has nothing that can arrest this dreadful disease! By mailing it to SC, we are sure it is used in this area!

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
