It's time for Judy's Joggers to walk!
As you recall, I join this team to honor the memory of my dear church choir alto friend, Judy. She was diagnosed with ALS, known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in September of 2012. She died January 1, 2015.
During the years of her illness, Judy lived to her maximum abilities each day while continuing to inspire her family and friends. She also participated in the ALS walks and Ice Bucket Challenge. She always hoped that a cure would be discovered.
Unfortunately, the battle is not over. Research funded by the ALS Association has produced some new drugs to help extend the life expectancy of ALS patients. But, for most patients, it is months not years. As you may remember, Judy survived for 2 years and 4 months following her diagnosis. That was, and continues to be, the average life expectancy for a person with ALS.
Researchers know that heredity accounts for 10 percent of ALS cases. But, the cause of 90% of ALS cases remains a mystery, and there is still no cure.
This will be Judy's Joggers twelfth year to participate in the San Antonio ALS Walk. Through the past years, our team has raised over $160,000!
Thank you for supporting everyone's efforts to unlock the cure to ALS!
Blessings,
Jane Wilson
