Judy Weaver was an alto who sang with me at the University Methodist Church decades ago. I always admired how she and her (tenor) husband, Russ, would hold hands during practice. Their love was solid and enduring.

ALS took her life in 2012. To honor her memory, Russ started Judy's Joggers. Each year, they don their T-shirts and walk ( not jog) to raise money for ALS research. After moving back to San Antonio, I rejoined the choir and Judy's Joggers.

It is a horrible neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe—the life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone; presently, there is no known cause or cure.
