My mom was diagnosed with bulbar ALS back in December of 2021 & it has been a devastating rollercoaster.
If you aren’t familiar with ALS,
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease and unfortunately no cure (YET). yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need.
To know my mom is to know how much she enjoys socializing, cooking, and always providing a great laugh. She is truly someone that can bring so much light into the dark & so much joy even on the hardest days.
Unfortunately with the effects of ALS, these qualities we love about her so much have been stripped away. She is no longer able to speak, eat, walk, or do anything independently.
This disease has brought so much perspective to our family & how so many things we consider simple are truly things to be grateful for.
But even with these challenges, ALS has not stolen her bright smile & amazing fighting spirit. God makes miracles happen everyday & we still hold so much faith! We thank you so much for your support & let’s continue to fight for this cure!
