OUR INSPIRATION
Doug Turley, husband and dad remains our hero. He completed his battle with ALS in 2015. If we could all live each day as if it were our last - as he did, the world would be a better place. Our experience of living with Doug while he outwitted and outlasted the 2-5 year "normal" length of life after diagnosis (14 years), truly gave me and our son Ian, texture and grit we might not have honed otherwise. We are different and stronger because of the examples Doug provided - and I know we are not the only ones he affected in a positive way.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Did you know, every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease? ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
Team Turley's ongoing participation in the Walk to Defeat ALS continues to raise awareness and funds to provide resources and services to area families effected by this devastating disease. Come join us on 10/6/24 at 10 am at Greenfield Park and/or donate and be a part of unlocking the mystery of ALS and find the key to treatments and a cure.
Don't know ABOUT ALS? (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease)
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need.
Strides here could help with diseases you may be more familiar with - such as MS, Parkinson's, Muscular Dystrophy and even migraines and dementia. Lou Gehrig died of this disease 83 years ago - we need to unlock a cure - it's way past time.
