For the 9th year in a row, it's with hopeful hearts that Team Winsor Pilates joins The ALS Association Golden West Chapter's Greater Los Angeles Walk to Defeat ALS IN PERSON at Exposition Park on Sunday, November 6, in loving memory of Mari Winsor.
I had the honor and privilege to work with Mari as her PR rep for 17 years. She was something "other" she was a visionary. Mari passed away after a seven-year battle with ALS in 2020. Her beloved husband, Elliot, passed the following year. Somewhere in the celestial world Mari is in a Pilates studio with her beloved Elliot cheering her on.
Powerhouse: The Mari Winsor Story
To understand who Mari was and what she meant to her family, her sorority sisters, her dancer friends, her Pilates trainers, her clients, the Pilates community around the world -- and pretty much everyone who came in contact with her, I invite you set aside 90-minutes to watch this beautiful documentary, "Powerhouse: The Mari Winsor Story" produced and directed by Kristi Cooper and Jeff Mizushima as part of Pilates Anytime Legacy Project.
By supporting Team Winsor Pilates with a gift, you are helping our team raise funds to support those living with ALS, those who will be diagnosed with ALS in the future, and their families.
The closer we reach our team goal, the more we honor and remember Mari's spirit and her wish to be a voice for the ALS Association Golden West Chapter's efforts to find more effective treatments and cures.
Today, we continue to walk and raise thousands of dollars to honor and remember Mari and her beloved Elliot, as the work of the Golden West Chapter has made – and continues to make – a profound difference in the lives of people living with ALS.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. T
his crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference. Join Team Winsor Pilates and walk with us in 2022.
