Larry Harms, Team Challenge ALS Champion
"In December of 2013 I received the final diagnosis that I indeed had ALS. I thought well that’s it, the retirement that I expected to be occupied playing golf and snow skiing was now out of the question. Thanks to encouragement from my brother, I once again started playing golf. But skiing, I thought, no way. Then the wonderful ladies at the Rocky Mountain ALS Association encouraged me to participate in the adaptive skiing program they sponsor each year at Eldora Mountain. To my surprise, the instructors outfitted me with all the equipment I needed to once again hit the slopes. As you can see from the photos, I was equipped with specialized gear that allowed me to take the weight of my weak legs but still maintain the ability to maneuver as I always had. An instructor could take control if I had any problems but didn’t intervene otherwise. I had a wonderful time and hope to make this a regular event. I would encourage all of you to attend the “Ski for ALS” event and take advantage of this wonderful experience. Don’t let the things you can’t do stop you from doing the things you can!" -Larry Harms
