Why We Run...
Hal Finney was one of the first supporters of bitcoin when Nakamoto floated it on a cryptography mailing list. On January 10, 2009 he famously tweeted: “Running bitcoin." Two days later he received the first bitcoin transaction for 10 BTC from Satoshi in block 170.
On August 5, 2009, Hal was diagnosed with ALS. He lived valiantly with ALS for 5 more years, cared for by his wife, Fran. He passed away in August, 2014, but Fran has continued to support ALS care and the search for effective treatments and cures. With the help of the Running Bitcoin Challenge Committee and a "Never Give Up" spirit, Fran and the ALS community intend to go the distance to defeat ALS!
