Join me in the fight to cure ALS!!
In early 2009, my Aunt Tina was diagnosed with ALS, a debilitating neurodegenerative disease that progressively attacks the everyday functionality of a person. As long as I can remember, Tina has always been one of the most spirited people in our family, adding humor and a contagious laugh to any situation. Today, she still holds that vitality of life and that beautiful smile while courageously fighting an excruciatingly uphill battle on a daily basis. By joining Team ALS, I hope to fight (with the help of all of you) in some small way for Tina and put an end to the suffering once and for all.
Worldwide, ALS occurs in one to three people per 100,000. An inherited disease occurs in 5 to 10 percent of the cases. However, in the vast majority of cases, doctors still do not know why ALS occurs in some people and not in others. I want to dedicate my 26.2 mile run through all five NYC boroughs to Tina, in honor of her fortitude against the disease and genuine vigor for life. My goal lies in raising both awareness and funding for the ALS Association’s research initiatives. Any small contribution will help and if you are in NYC on November 7th for the marathon, come cheer on TEAM ALS!
