      Can I register offline?

      Yes. You can download the offline registration flyer and submit to the foundation office and you will be registered. There is a price difference for both offline and race day registrations. Please note that all offline registrations are $40 and race day registrations are $45. 

      Can I run with a stroller?

      We discourage strollers and wagons along the race run routes. However, we do allow them on the walk routes. Please line up near the back of start line for safety purposes. 

      Are pets welcome?

      With the exception of service and emotional support animals, no pets are allowed.

      I am registered but can no longer participate.  Am I able to get a refund?

      The Avera Race is unable to process refunds for registrations. If you are unable to participate, you may transfer your registration to another individual, change your registration type to a "Sideline Supporter" so that you still receive an official Avera Race packet or ask that your registration be converted to a donation. Should you wish to update your registration based on any of these options, please reach out using the Contact Us form.

      What if I'm injured on the route?

      Medical professionals and volunteers will be available to assist in the event of an injury on the route. There will also be a First Aid station near the main stage staffed by a paramedic and an on-call Paramedics Plus Ambulance.

      Will there be special accommodations for wheelchairs?

      Yes. The Avera Race is ADA accessible. Please call 605-940-1734 for specific accommodations. 

      Are there water stops along the route?

      Water stations are located on the 5K/10K routes and at the finish line. Please refer to the race route flyer for more information. Water will also be available at the Start/Finish Line as well as the food tent near the main stage.

      Are the 5K/10K runs timed?

      Yes. Both the 5K/10K runs are competitve, offical chip-timed events. Results are posted online after the event. To ensure integrity and accuracy of our event database, registration for the 10K/5K runs close on Friday, May 10, at 5 p.m.

      Will the race be canceled due to inclement weather?

      The Avera Race takes place rain or shine!  We do reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, there will be no refunds and your registration fee will be used as a donation to benefit cancer patients and families served at Avera Cancer Institute.

      Am I able to get my yearly screening mammogram at the Avera Race?

      Digital screening mammograms will be available from 6-11 a.m. in the Avera Digital Mobile Mammography truck at the race. Breast health materials, scheduling information and tours will also be available. Please call 605-322-PINK (7465) to schedule your Avera Race day mammogram or make an appointment at a Avera Breast Center location near you.

      Is there a time limit for running the 5K or 10K?

      There are no time limits on the race routes, however, streets will be re-opened at 10 a.m. Lead and tail bikers will be on the run routes to make sure that everyone finishes safely.

      I have young children that will be attending the race with me.  Do they need to be registered?

      Only registered participants receive an official Avera Race shirt and canvas tote bag. Children 16 and under receive a discounted registration fee of $15.

      Packet Pick-Up

      All registered participants are required to pick up their packets on the dates below based upon their registration type. Team and individual packet pick-ups will take place at the  Avera McKennan Fitness Center during the times listed below: 

      NOTE: Timing chips for runners are included in all packets. Any late team packets will be available during indivdiual packet pick-up. Due to large volumes, packets will not be mailed out or delivered. If you are unable to attend one of the packet pick-up times, please make other arrangements. Packets not picked up before Friday, May 17 will be donated to the Avera Cancer Institute. 

      Team Packet Pick-Up

      • Friday, May 3   6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
      • Saturday, May 4  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
      • Sunday, May 5  12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m.
      • Monday, May 6  7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

      Individual Packet Pick-Up

      • Thursday, May 9  3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
      • Friday, May 10  7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 

      Participant Packet

      • The first 5,500 registrants will receive canvas tote bag and other giveaways.
      • Adults receive a unisex long-sleeve loose fit performance t-shirt.
      • Children 14 and under receive a unisex short-sleeve loose fit performance t-shirt.
      • To ensure all registered participants receive their selected size, substitutions may be made AFTER the race or the following week. 
      • ALL cancer survivors receive a complimentary survivor long-sleeved t-shirt. Please note if you are a survivor on the registration form or during the online check-out process.

      • 6:00 am - Shuttle buses begin
      • 7:00 am - Avera Race Expo and Survivor Pavilion opens
      • 7:15 am - Survivor group photo
      • 7:40 am - Song tribute to all survivors
      • 7:45 am - Warm-up with Jackie
      • 8:00 am - Race begins 
        • 10K race begins
        • Breakfast buffet opens
      • 8:15 am - 5K race begins
      • 8:20 am - 1.5 and 3 mile walks begin

      • Participants, volunteers, sponsors and Sideline Supporters are welcome to stay after the race and enjoy the Avera Race Expo and complimentary breakfast buffet. Note that the Survivor Pavilion is open to ALL cancer survivors and their families.
      • Race results will be posted online after the race at AveraRaceSiouxFalls.org.
      • Runner awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in both 5K and 10K races receive a gift card donated by the Great Outdoor Store.

      Bring Your Family and Friends

      Everyone can participate in the Avera Race Against Cancer. The aerobic warm-up, fun walks, expo area and cool-down breakfast are all designed for family fun.

      Survivor Parking

      • Limited survivor parking is available in the Avera McKennan Fitness Center and Shalom Christian Reformed Church parking lots.
      • Gain access by wearing your cancer survivor shirt included in your race packet.

      NOTE: Please do not park in the Avera McKennan Fitness Center parking lot. When parking in residential and business areas, be aware of city parking laws. Be courteous to our neighbors and avoid blocking driveways. 

      Participant Parking

      • Plan to arrive 30 to 60 minutes early to allow adequate time.
      • Participant parking is available in surrounding residential areas.

      Volunteer Parking

      • Volunteer parking is available at Lions Centennial Park, behind the Four Hills Shopping Mall and Shalom Christian Reformed Church.

      Steps For Team Registration

      • You may register your team by clicking the "Form a Team" button on the home screen.
      • If you create a new team, you will be the team captain.
      • Recruit team members (NOTE: Ten registered participants are required to qualify as a team. If your team does not have ten registered participants by Monday, April 22, the team will be disbanded and will be registered as individuals. There is no maximum of registered participants per team).
      • Challenge team members to go the next step and create their own online fundraising page with their registration.
      • Be creative with your team; design shirts, make signs and have fun!
      • Team registration is due by Friday, April 26 at 5:00 p.m.

      Getting Started

      Fundraise Today

      It's easier than ever to support local cancer patients and survivors! Simply create your own fundraising web page with your Avera Race online registration. Get your family, friends, and co-workers involved by asking them to register or make a financial gift in honor of your Avera Race participation. 

      Tips to Get Started Online:

      • Visit AveraRaceSiouxFalls.org and fill out general registration form. Options include: join a team, form a team or register as an individual.
      • Once registered, customize your Participant Center with a personal message, photos and set your fundraising goal.

      Rally Support:

      • After personalizing your Participant Center, begin contacting friends and family to support your fundraising efforts through participation or a general contribution. 
      • Auto-generated emails containing donation links are available to encourage contributions. 
      • Update your progress regularly by entering offline gifts.

      Volunteer

      Before Signing Up

      • All volunteers must fill out individual registration forms (multiple volunteers cannot sign up on the same form due to liability reasons).
      • All volunteers over the age of 14 will receive a long-sleeve, loose fit performance t-shirt (underage volunteers must have a parent present and will not be eligible for the complimentary t-shirt).
      • The volunteer spots you select on the sign up form are the spots you will be assigned based upon availability.

      Race Day Information

      • All volunteers are asked to wear their volunteer t-shirt when working assigned shifts for identification purposes. Take weather conditions into consideration and wear t-shirts over cold weather clothing if needed. 
      • Utilize shuttle transportation to park in residential areas (volunters are not allowed to park in the Avera McKennan Fitness Center parking lot).
