Two hundred sixty five cyclists pedaled across Southeastern New England on Sunday, Oct. 4, to show their support for clean water during the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride, a scenic bicycling tour stretching from Little Compton, R.I. to New Bedford, Mass.

Pedaling beneath sunny skies and light winds on a cool fall day, the cyclists recorded impressive fundraising and participation totals at the 14th annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride. The 291 registered participants, supported by 58 volunteers, raised $200,000 and counting for clean water.

While the ride may be over, our riders' fundraising efforts to support the Coalition's mission continue through Saturday, Oct. 31. You still have time to show your support by making a gift in honor of an individual rider or team, or more generally, to the Coalition itself.

The Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride offers cycling routes that wind past bucolic farmlands, windswept beaches, and scenic harbors on the way to the finish line. This year, the ride's traditional routes have been adapted to two options—a metric century (62 miles) and a metric half-century (31 miles)—due to social distancing guidelines and restrictions.

All riders are fully supported with local food and beverages all day, welcoming volunteers, and SAG wagons with ace bike mechanics and first aid. Registration fee includes water stops and hearty post-ride refreshments.

On the way to the finish line, you will pass more than 3,000 acres protected forever for the health of our Bay—peaceful beaches, sensitive salt marshes, and rich woodlands. Your participation in the ride will help to protect this beautiful coastline and Bay.

This year's ride is taking place at a time when public health officials recommend following social distancing guidelines. The Ride can and will be adapted to incorporate social distancing measures designed to keep everyone safe—cyclists, spectators, volunteers, and Coalition staff.

Cyclists fundraise to protect clean water by supporting the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s work across land protection, science, advocacy, and education. Team participation is welcome and encouraged to help #SAVEBUZZARDSBAY!
