Karen is biking for clean water at the Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride!
Dear Family and Friends,
Fred and I have continued to enjoy our sailing on the Buzzards Bay. But the Bay needs our help. This year I joined a group of over 100 volunteers from the Buzzards Bay Coalition to sample the water and collect data on the health of the Bay’s local waterways. The 31-year-old project is in partnership with the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole.
My friend, Cathy, has joined me in sampling the water at the inner Slocum River—a waterway that runs into the Bay. This is a very unhealthy spot due to nitrogen pollution from home septic systems, manicured lawns, farms, roads and acid rain. It scored a poor rating of 25 out of 100. We want to do our part in improving the health of the Bay's ecosystem!
You can help by donating to the upcoming Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on Sunday, October 2. I'll be joining hundreds of others in cycling around the Bay to raise funds for restoration of clean water in our community. I have registered for the 35-mile ride and made a commitment to raise $800 to support the Coalition's conservation, research, advocacy, and education work. Your donation will help me reach my goal and make a difference in helping to protect clean water for all of us - and for future generations!
Thank you for your support!
