Walk to End Bladder Cancer in Memory of Scott Zatyrka
On November 1st, 2023, I held my dad’s (Scott Zatyrka) hand as I watched him take his final breath due to his battle with Bladder Cancer. He was first diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in 2017 and he was just 45 years old when he passed. I still haven’t been able to wrap my head around the fact that he’s not here anymore and it’s so hard to believe that he’s really gone. When a person dies from cancer it’s often said that “they lost their fight” or “cancer won”. Although, my dad may no longer be here in the flesh, I will never say he lost his fight, because he was a hero. My dad fought with this awful, painful disease for over 7 years. Through surgeries, different procedures, hospital stays, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and even times with no treatment at all for an extensive amount of time. Along with an insufferable amount of pain and agony that most wouldn’t be able to endure for as long as he did. His strength is so admirable and to know what he went through, has shown me that he is one of the strongest people I’ll ever know. He was a fighter beyond what many can imagine! So no, I don’t say he lost his battle, because he never stopped fighting! God delivered him from his suffering and then gained to his wings. Through it all he never complained, he remained the selfless father, son, uncle, partner, worker and friend to everyone who knew him. May 1st also marks the start of Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. I will be walking at the BCAN walk this month in his honor. I'm actively raising funds for a cause to stand with those affected by bladder cancer and support the mission of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN). BCAN is the nation's primary advocacy organization dedicated to advancing bladder cancer research and providing crucial assistance to those facing this challenging illness. I warmly invite you to consider making a meaningful, tax-deductible donation to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. Your generous support will empower BCAN to raise public awareness and secure increased funding for vital research aimed at discovering a cure for bladder cancer. Please understand that your donation will directly impact BCAN's ability to reach more individuals dealing with this disease, ultimately making a substantial difference in saving lives. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
