Virtual Walk

Believe in Breakthroughs

Last May Patty led a large group of friends and family, as part of her team “Believing in Breakthroughs”, on a walk in support of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN).  In her outreach to family and friends regarding this event, she said the following:

“First, let me say THANK YOU for being an incredible part of my life.  Love, love, love you!  To ask you to walk with me as part of this nationwide event, when you have already “walked” with me for more than two years, certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone.  Yet, I asked because I feel compelled to give back to people who are part of an organization that has definitely extended my life and has the potential to find a cure for others in the future.  The team at UW and Fred Hutch have made an amazing difference for me.  From appointment setting, surgery scheduling, blood draws, office visits, chemo days, radiation days, surgery and oncology consultation, every healthcare professional I have come across has paid attention to detail and made a most difficult time more promising.  I have learned that 723,000 people are living with bladder cancer in the United States.  Together we can support the nearly 83,000 people who will be diagnosed this year, and honor those who fought this disease to the end.  In our immediate family alone:  Dad, Mom, Lynn, Jack and I have all been affected by cancer.  So, depending on where you are in the family, a grandma, grandpa, aunt or uncle has known cancer to be life changing.  Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN).  Your donation will help BCAN reach more people with this disease and, most importantly, save lives.”

On the occasion of this year’s walk, our dearest Patty has become one who “fought this disease to the end”.  As we prepare for her memorial service, we’d like to suggest that, in lieu of flowers, a donation to BCAN in her memory will be most appreciated.
