Fundraising Tips
Critical funds raised through the Walk will help the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), raise awareness of bladder cancer, one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the U.S., support thousands of people living with this disease, and raise funds for needed bladder cancer research. Here are some ideas to make fundraising easier.
Lead by example - Start by making a donation to yourself and ask others to match it!
Download the Walk with BCAN Mobile App – Take your fundraising experience on the go! Update your page, send emails, check your fundraising progress, and connect to {Apple HealthKit / Google Fit} to track your physical activity with other participants and teams – all from the palm of your hand. Download it now from the Apple Store or Google Play.
Start Facebook Fundraiser - Once you sign up, you can login to the Participant Center and link your personal fundraising to a Facebook Fundraiser.
Send emails – You can also find customizable emails to send to friends and family to ask for their support and to join you on walk day.
Post on Social Media - Visit our Participant Tools and Resources page to get graphics and sample messaging to encourage your friends and family to join you on walk day and start fundraising.
Honor someone - Encourage a bladder cancer survivor to participate on your team or participate in memory of someone. Let everyone know your team is participating in their honor. A real-life story makes your fundraising personal.
Ask every day - Ask one person each day to make a contribution. If you get five $20 gifts, you'll have raised $100 in less than a week! Bladder cancer is a disease that impacts many, and most people are happy to donate even in tough economic times. Give everyone the opportunity to help by making a tax-deductible donation. Donation Forms - Keep a donation form on you at all times, that way you have it handy. If someone can't donate, ask them to spread the word or participate with you.
Matching Gifts - Double your donation! Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Some provide matching funds to support employee volunteer hours. Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar, and some will even double or triple the amount of your gift!
