Help prevent and target inherited cancer

Inherited cancers are up to ten times more common than we used to believe. Genetic mutations can be passed down through generations and are now thought to cause up to 10% of cancers, including prostate, breast, ovarian, pancreatic, colon and lung cancers.

The BC Cancer Agency’s Hereditary Cancer Program needs to expand. The first step is ensuring that all patients across B.C. with advanced cancers are screened for hereditary factors when they are diagnosed.

Doctors will not only be able to develop a targeted treatment plan for a patient with hereditary cancer, but they will also be able to test family members for the same mutation. This will enable future generations to undergo regular cancer screening, or to explore preventative options. And of course, it gives peace of mind for those who don’t carry the mutation.

Your gift today can help B.C. families take charge of their future.
