Puppy Mill Image Legislative Alert

Puppy and kitten mills are a serious problem in the U.S. These facilities, which supply nearly all online and retail stores that sell pets, are cruel and inhumane factories where profit takes priority over the comfort and welfare of the animals.
Although these breeders are subject to regulation, their standards fall far short of ensuring a humane life for their animals. Unsuspecting buyers of commercially bred puppies and kittens often end up with pets afflicted with serious communicable or congenital diseases, creating financial and emotional burdens for those customers and leading to many of these innocent animals being surrendered to our overcrowded, taxpayer-subsidized shelters.
Fortunately, the New Jersey legislature is considering legislation that would crack down on irresponsible breeding and protect pets and consumers by prohibiting roadside animal sales and preventing new pet stores from selling dogs and cats from puppy and kitten mills ― as many communities within New Jersey have already done.
Please take action today to let your representatives know that it’s time for New Jersey to take a firm stand against puppy and kitten mills.
Thank you for speaking up for animals. Together, we can Save Them All.

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a proud resident of New Jersey, I respectfully urge you to support S.63 to restrict the retail sale of inhumanely bred companion animals, many of whom end up in our overcrowded, taxpayer-subsidized shelters.

I urge you to support this important reform to protect pets, consumers and taxpayers in New Jersey by voting in favor of S.63.

Thank you.
