SB 641, Amendment 1 provides for local control of Pet Population Control Funds.
We are running out of time so we need you to act today. Senator Linda Holmes is sponsoring Senate Bill 641, amendment 1, which will allow counties, if they choose, to use their pet population control funds to humanely reduce the outdoor cat population through trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) programs and to sterilize the pets of county residents who are eligible for Social Security disability benefits.
This is common-sense legislation that is long overdue. The state has been able to use pet population control funds for these purposes since 2006. Counties should have the same power as the state. After meetings and discussion earlier this year, the Illinois Feral Cat Task Force, formed by the state in 2016, agreed that counties should be able to use pet pop funds for the same purposes as the state.
Politics is not a spectator sport, so please take action today by contacting your senator and letting him or her know that you support this bill. Please also express your support for SB 641, amendment 1, by sending an email to the members of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
Thanks! Together, we can Save Them All.
Dear [Decision Maker],
As a constituent, I urge your support for Senate Bill 641, amendment 1, to give counties the same powers as the state over the pet population funds they collect. This common-sense legislation that is long overdue in our state.
