Newfoundland Brain Tumour Walk 2019

Team Chris & Ashley

Hi All, I’m part of the movement to end brain tumours and I hope you’ll join me in this Canada-wide effort to put a stop to this disease.

This is my 4th walk I have particpated in and I'd like to thank all the support I recieved during the 2016, 2017 and 2018 walks.

I’d like to encourage you all to come out for the 2019 walk and support this great foundation on this walk on June 23rd, at the Rotart Paradise Center in Paradise to enhance the visibility of brain tumours in Newfoundland and Labrador and the “Hope” to progress in discovering the cause of brain tumours; the “Hope” for better treatments for every child and adult diagnosed; And most of all, the “Hope” for a cure.

Brain tumours are the leading cause of solid cancer death in children under the age of 20, now surpassing acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Because brain tumours are located at the control centre for thought, emotion, and movement, they can dramatically affect an individual's physical and cognitive abilities and quality of life.

As most of you are aware, On September 16th, 2015 I received news that dramatically altered my life where i was diagnosed with a Brain tumour. After a craniotomy on October 1st, 2015, I received the news that is was a Grade 2 Oligodendroglioma non-malignant tumour and there was no present requirement for further treatment and the recommendation was for continued monitoring with periodic scans and regular consultation with the oncologists and neurologist.

Over the past 4 years with continued monitoring and scans, the tumour has remined stable and I have essentially return to normal aspects of life, travel and maintain and promote an active lifestyle in the community.

Thank you for supporting me, and more importantly, for helping the 55,000 Canadians who live with a brain tumour today.

I encourage you to join our team for the walk / run. Please register online to ensure you get a 2019 walk ball hat.
