Lead us towards a cure: Prioritize NIH Investment in 2014

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am a constituent and volunteer advocate with the National Brain Tumor Society. As the government reopens and you look towards formulating the Fiscal Year 2014 budget, I ask that you prioritize funding for brain tumor research by funding the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at the full appropriations request level of $32 billion.

The National Institutes of Health is the largest funder of brain tumor research in the nation. During the government shutdown, research came to a halt and new research grant applications were not reviewed. In addition, new patients were barred from beginning potentially lifesaving treatment at the NIH. These setbacks should be reversed and call for nothing short of a major commitment to medical research.

As you move forward in the FY14 budget deliberations, please support the vital work of the NIH by fully funding it at the pre-sequestration level of $32 billion so that new treatments and ultimately a cure can be found for those living with brain tumors in your district and across the country. Thank you.
