Laura and Matthew's Warriors
Laura and Matthew’s families are joining forces against brain tumors! We are extremely thankful for the support from our family and friends and we hope you’ll join us in our mission to help find a cure, strength in numbers!
In February 2019 we noticed “gapping” episodes in our 8 year old Matthew. His pediatrician called them absence seizures and referred us to a neurologist who diagnosed “focal” seizures and ordered an MRI and EEG. We were so scared when we were told that a mass was on his brain and absolutely terrified discovering the golfball sized tumor on the right frontal lobe. The surgeon was confident that he could remove it and that it appeared low grade. Given different treatment options we elected to schedule immediate surgery which was conducted on March 8th with blessed success! The biopsy results showed a grade 2 diffuse astrocytoma and the only present treatment is frequent MRIs to confirm no reappearance. We already knew Matthew is brave and tough but didn’t see just how strong until he had to fight this. We are so thankful that a cause like this exists to continue supporting tumor research and treatment.
It was Oct 2010 when I was a 24 year old planning her wedding that was just 7 months away when my Meningioma was discovered. As I lay in ICU I couldn’t help but wonder where life was going to lead following my surgery that was scheduled in just 3 short days. Following a successful surgery and recovery, I was able to return back to normal life. Since then I have become a wife, and mother to 2 beautiful children. In 2018, 8 years following a full resection, I was told my tumor had returned, following a year of "watch and wait" a scan showed 4 tumors in my previous resection spot. I had another full resection on 11/25/2019 at UCSF. 33 radiation treatments are underway and expected to end in April.
