Welcome to Sonja Myklebust's Fundraiser Page
On January 3, 2019, my body, mind, spirit, and life as I knew it was hit with a metaphorical landmine. The CT scan found a mass on my brain and I was scheduled for surgery the next day. Now, 2 months later, I am taking one step at a time in acknowledging that I am diagnosed with a stage 4 GBM. This brain tumor is aggressive and the treatment plan is aggressive.
The surgery was swift and very successful. My surgeon, Dr, Reddy, is miraculous. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The entire team at Kaiser Redwood City is made of caregiving angels. So many held my hand, gave me the strength to accept more IVs, shots, and drugs into my body. They kept my precious spirit and body alive. I am forever grateful and in awe of medicine.
The post-surgery MRI scan showed the entire tumor removed. But pesky cells can sometimes linger so I am in the midst of direct radiation to the tumor cavity as well as chemo taken in a pill form. This treatment lasts 6 weeks. After this treatment, I will shave my head and begin to wear a cap with electrodes that emit electromagnetic waves to stop the tumor from growing back. This new type of treatment is called Optune.
While in the daze of healing from surgery; and I mean the deepest mental quagmire I have ever experienced; I dreamed about a healer and she hummed into my head. She sent the healing sound vibrations deep into my brain and the vibrations connected me to the universe. The vibrations will heal me and that is why I am looking forward to Optune. I love that I will wear a good vibrations cap.
In healing and immense gratitude,
