2020 Race For Hope DC

Maywald Strong

Our mission is a bold one, we are fiercely committed to raising awareness of brain cancer, for people living with a Glioblastoma today and anyone who will be diagnosed tomorrow.

On Tuesday September 10th life changed in an instant for Randy Maywald age 58 healthy Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Randy having a persistent headache went in for an MRI that afternoon after all other tests revealed there where no other issues. As soon as the test was complete he was rushed to the ER and admitted to ICU with (3) Brain Tumors causing a considerable midline shift of the brain. On Thursday September 12th a Craniotomy was performed to remove as much of the (orange size) tumor as possible to reduce edema and the midline shift. After surgery Randy awoke talking and moving he would stay in ICU for observation till Sunday September 15th when he would be released to go home. Given two weeks to heal and wait for determination from the pathology results our family waited. On September 26th at our follow-up appointment we were informed that it is Stage 4 Glioblastoma we were advised to start Chemotherapy and Radiation as soon as possible advising that this would be 5 days a week for 6 weeks.

Upon being given the diagnosis and being told he has 15 months to live Randy told the doctor “This will Not Beat Me”. It was in that very moment The devil whispered in his ear “You are not strong enough to withstand the storm.” and he said “I am the Storm.”

The Morning of June 24, 2019, my dad Randy Maywald age 59 took his last breathe. Please join Team Maywald Strong and in his honor show support to those fighting, remember those whom have fallen and help prevent by spreading awareness.
