I have been running the Race For Hope in DC with Howard Homes for the past 12 years to make a difference in the fight against brain tumors. I am passionate about this race not only because I believe in the cause or that I am a 15 year meningioma survivor, but because this horrible disease keeps taking so many from us who fight so hard to be with us.
Last year I ran my first race without my buddy, John Howard, the reason for Team Howard Homes. He fought so hard to live. He tried anything available to eradiacate his tumor and extend his quality of life but unfortunately the tumor won. We run/walk so that someday we will win and the brain tumor/cancer lose.
It was hard crossing the finish line without John but I was so lucky to have so many of my SIS(Sisters in Sweat) ladies attend this difficult race to support me and this cause. This year I will continue to run for one of my SIS who is battling brain cancer with grace and humor. She is successfully completing each treatment with the help of meds, doctors, friends, and faith. She will win this battle! I am forever changed by this disease but in a crazy way, this disease enriched my life by bringing so many great people into my life which is priceless.
We MUST find a cure so I’m taking action the only I know; by running in support of or in memory of my friends. However, I need your help. National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure are making strides for a cure - but more needs to be done. Please join me in my effort!
