Welcome to Team Proud Mary!
It's that time again!! For the 12th year, Team Proud Mary will hit the streets of DC (May 5) with thousands of others who will run for the hope of one day finding a cure for brain cancer. For those who have been my teammate and ran beside me in the past, you know this is a fun yet moving tribute to both survivors and those who have passed away too soon. My family and I deeply appreciate your support. We had a great team last year, our largest with the most kiddos and family members!, and met a new fundraising record. I'll be coming in from Chicago to raise the bar yet again. Twelve years strong. We can do it -- for our mom, for survivors, for families, and for others that have passed away far too soon.
As many of you know, our beautiful mom, Mary Lawler, lost her battle with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer June 25, 2008. Before her diagnosis, she -- like many others -- was a thriving wife, mother, sister and community advocate with dreams of retirement and grandchildren. Then came cancer without warning. Despite it all, she never lost her spirit, her grit, or her sense of humor. Each year, my family “runs” (some remotely) in memory of a truly exceptional mother -- all that she was and continues to be in memory.
So, in tribute to my/our mom and to support many others actively fighting this cruel disease, strap on your tennies on May 5 and join me for a walk, skip or run in celebration of life!
Though the cause is serious, as many of you know, running with me isn't. Let's be honest, I've walked and chatted these last years much like my mom would have. So, pick your poison. We all reach the destination eventually. :)
Like last year, we will have team t-shirts!
If you cannot partake, donations are welcomed and appreciated. This race is the leading fundraising event for brain cancer research and finances pivotal treatments many from which my mom benefitted. Any amount--small or large--matters. Together, we can and will make a difference.
Thank you in advance and fight fiercely (family motto).
Glad you are part of the team!
