Welcome to My Personal Page
Why do we walk in the Race for Hope? On April 14, 2009, (ten years ago today) our day began like any other day. However, by nightfall we would find our daughter, Anna, on life support and diagnosed with a huge inoperable and very aggressive brain tumor. The only reason that she survived the day was that she was already in the emergency room when she suffered a massive seizure. She had been to several doctors in the days prior complaining of worsening headaches and nausea but none of them thought to look for a brain tumor in an otherwise healthy 29-year old woman. Glenn and I support the National Brain Tumor Society as they promote brain tumor awareness as well as research to find a cure. Perhaps if the healthcare professionals that saw Anna prior to her diagnosis had been made more aware of the symptoms and prevalence of brain tumors she could have been diagnosed sooner and spared the seizure that left her with both physical and mental deficits.
The Race for Hope - DC raises funds to support innovative research initiatives and support services for brain tumor patients and their families along with brain tumor awareness. This amazing event relies on the dedication and enthusiasm of individuals, families, teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors. We will also be participating in Head to the Hill, sponsored by the National Brain Tumor Society. This is a time when we can meet with our Congressmen, share our stories and ask that they, too, support the fight by making sure institutions such as the NIH receive necessary funding.
We would love for you to join Team Lester in this amazing event on May 5. If you are interested in joining Team Lester, you can register online by clicking "Join Rebecca's Team" on this page.
