Welcome to My Personal Page
My name is Lori, I'm Ken's wife, and I found it only fitting to update Ken's personal page for the Race for Hope 2019. Five years ago I wrote this letter three days post Ken's surgery to remove his brain tumor full of hope - hope for pathology reports of a low grade lesion, hope to continue the marriage we both cherish, and hope for a continued life together as a family as we raise our young children.
I'm profoundingly grateful to say that our hope and prayers have become a reality. Approximately ten days post surgery, Ken received his pathology reports. His world class neurosurgeon, Dr. Alfredo Quinones, had been right all along. Ken was diagnosed with a low grade pilocytic astrocytoma - the most common pediatric tumor - one rarely found in adults. He would not require any more treatment, and the chance of recurrence is close to zero percent.
Ken's recovery was faster and less painful than any of us could have imagined which we can attribute to the fundraising and surgical innovations that predated his surgery. He was back to his normal self approximately eight weeks post surgery, and to look at him now, you'd never know what he has been through, because he doesn't even have a visible scar. His continued strength comes from within, and our family remains determined to find a cure for patients who have far different diagnoses. This cause will always remain close to our hearts.
Please join us in celebrating Ken's health and our commitment in the fight against brain tumors. This cause has provided us with a purpose and a very important reminder. Every journey is different, but together we can make a real difference. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for your continued love and support.
