On February 2,  we lost my dear friend and client, Erin Haberman. Erin was a wonder woman. In 2002, when she was 33 and pregnant with her third child, Erin was diagnosed with an Oligodendroglioma, a type of brain tumor. The doctors took her baby early in order to operate, giving Erin 3-5 years to live. Erin refused to accept that prognosis. Despite regular seizures, countless trips to the hospital, multiple surgeries, loss of her immune system function due to a virus she contracted from a blood transfusion, loss of the use of one side of her body and a slow but steady decline in her physical quality of life, Erin kept going. She refused to give in to her physical condition and LIVED her life with all of its challenges, not only raising her girls, but acting as a Girl Scout leader, a council member of the Patient/Family Advisory Board for MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, and an avid lobbyist, advocate, and volunteer for Medicare and for Immune Deficiency Reform.

Fueled by her ferocious determination to raise her three girls, Erin turned 3-5 years into 17. Erin was 50 when she passed on February 2, leaving her three daughters Mia, Tatum, and Kiley, 17, 22, and 24.

Erin was fun loving, passionate (opinionated!), determined, loud, and loveable. As it became harder and harder for her to get out of bed, it was not at all unusual for those of us who knew her well to pile into that big bed with her for great conversations, laughter, and tears. For me, personally, those are the moments I will remember and miss the most.

On May 5, I am joining Erin's family and friends in the National Brain Tumor Society's Race For Hope to raise funds to support public policy, education, research, and new therapies for people with brain tumors. Some of the therapies supported by NBTS helped Erin live as long as she did.

If you are inclined to support this cause I will be honored and grateful for your participation.
