In May, 2019, I plan, once again, to participate as a volunteer at the annual Race for Hope in Washington, DC. What began, years ago, as a show of support for David Cook, (winner of Season 7 of American Idol, talented singer-songwriter/actor, and all around good guy), who lost his brother to this deadly disease, has turned into something even more personal and close to home.
In the summer of 2017, in an terrible twist of fate, my young nephew, James, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. James, a young dad with a wife and two young children, teaches martial arts. Originally he and his family were told that the tumor was inoperable...and that it resided in an area where any attempted surgery would affect his motor coordination...a devasting blow to his livelihood, and his life. Less than a week later they were blessed to find a surgeon who had a more promising outlook and he underwent surgery. James is currently now cancer free and back to work.
We need to support the necessary research to find ways for better treatment and for the eventual eradication of brain cancer itself. I am uniting with others to make a difference in the fight against brain tumors. I am passionate about this cause, so I’m taking action and need your help. National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure are making strides for a cure - but more needs to be done. Please join in my effort!
* This year I am holding a David Cook Quilt/Blanket Fundraiser once again. Copy the link and paste it into a browser to reach my fundraiser website: https://teamjr-rfh2019.weebly.com/
A special thanks to each of you who participated last year. YOU ALL made it possible to add $830 to the 2018 David Cook Team for a Cure total. Every penny goes to ABC2 to help in the race to find a cure for brain cancer. YOU guys all ROCK!
