Team Fiza (East Coast)
Team Fiza has participated in the National Brain Tumor Society's annual walks/races since 2015, and in the last five years has raised tens of thousands of dollars for brain tumor research. While this year Team Fiza (west coast) will be taking a break because of scheduling issues, Team Fiza (east coast) will be soldiering on at the Race for Hope in DC on May 5th, 2019.
Fiza was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme in December 2014, an aggressive, malignant, and, to date, incurable form of brain cancer. Following a resection of her tumor, a course of radiation, chemotherapy, and two clinical trials, Fiza died in February 2016, shortly after a second recurrence of her disease.
Fiza was a daughter, a mother (to a then-5-year-old), a sister, a wife, a beloved friend, and an attorney working on behalf of disadvantaged children, but she was, as anyone who met her can attest, much greater than the sum of these roles. She was brilliant and kind. She was multitudinous and lovely, and she is mourned as much today as she was on the day she died.
We walk to remember and to honor Fiza.
