ABOUT RELAY FOR LIFE

Each day, our friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues prove to us that while cancer can change everything, it doesn’t have to define who you are.

At the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life, we show the people we love that life is bigger than your diagnosis — and that no matter where you live, you don’t have to face cancer alone.

Community is bigger than cancer

Celebrate cancer survivors

If you are a cancer survivor, cancer-free or living with the disease, we want to celebrate you and the hope that you provide to your community. When you sign up as a survivor for Relay For Life, you will be honoured during the first lap of Relay — the Survivors’ Victory Lap.

Remember those we've lost

Whether you Relay for a parent, child, grandparent, or friend, luminaries are a powerful symbol that our loved ones are always in our hearts. The Luminary Ceremony at Relay For Life allows us to honour and remember those we love, every step of the way.

Change the future of cancer

At Relay For Life, your support allows us to change the lives of people in our communities. Wherever your Relay takes place, you will be helping us raise funds towards game-changing research that can change how we understand and treat this disease for generations to come.

What can you expect at Relay?

For 20 years, Relay For Life has been the Canadian Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event. At your Relay, you’ll see participants of all ages taking turns walking around a designated track. Our events are 6 to 12 hours in length, depending on the location. We ask each team to have at least one member on the track at all times, as a way to symbolize our solidarity with those affected by cancer across the country. With nearly 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, we all know someone whose life has been changed by this disease.

On and off track, there’s always something to do at Relay For Life. Those taking a break from walking can check out their event’s entertainment and activities, or relax at their team’s campsite. Wherever your Relay takes place, you’ll be joining thousands of people across the country who have shown up for their communities — and helped us prove that together, we are bigger than cancer.
