So, you’re all ready to fundraise. Now what? It’s never been easier to fundraise online. We’re here to help as you motivate your community to join you in honouring survivors, remembering those we’ve lost, and taking action to change the future of cancer.

No matter the size of your community, we’ve got ways to help you reach your fundraising potential in no time at all. Here are some tips to get the ball rolling and use your fundraising centre to boost your efforts!

7 ways to make the most of your fundraising

Share your story

Being diagnosed with cancer can be one of the most difficult and frightening points in a person’s life. But sharing how cancer has affected you, your family or someone close to you can help those with cancer in our communities feel less alone. We all have a reason to Relay — use your page to explain why raising money for the cancer cause is close to your heart.

Use the app!

Worried you won’t have time to fundraise? Our Relay For Life app lets you keep in touch with your community, wherever you are. Use the app to send pre-written messages to your friends and family, post on social media, and track your fundraising on the go.

Personalize your efforts

Put a face to your fundraising — you have every reason to be proud of your efforts and commitment to making a difference in people’s lives. Having a photo of yourself, along with a personal message, will make your fundraising page much more memorable to those in your community, too.

Get the word out on social media

In today’s world, social media is the quickest way to reach the most people. Think about it: if five friends see your Facebook post and each donate $20, you’ve already made $100! Share your fundraising link on your page, so your followers have a convenient way to support you.

Make a self-donation

Kick-start your fundraising with a self-donation! When people see you’ve already donated to yourself, they’ll see that you’ve made the commitment to changing the future of cancer and be encouraged to support your efforts.

Share your page

You may have mentioned your fundraising to your family and friends, but do they know where they can donate to you? Use your fundraising centre to share your page and remind people to donate. Simply use the share link option to text or email your page to potential donors — they’ll have all the information they need.

Who to ask for donations

When approaching those in your community for donations, consider everyone. Whether it be your child’s teacher, the local hockey coach, your hair stylist, dentist, you name it — these are all people who would love the opportunity to come together with the community and do their part to ensure no one faces cancer alone.

Your community is counting on you

Need some fundraising motivation? Relay is a powerful way to show up for the survivors and people living with cancer in your community. Here’s what survivors and other Canadians touched by cancer had to say about what Relay means to them.

“To see the community come together at Relay For Life to support cancer survivors and cancer research is just an overwhelmingly powerful moment.”

Dana Crispo, Sudbury, Ontario resident and ovarian cancer survivor

“Without fundraising efforts like Relay For Life, I wouldn’t have been able to get the support services that I needed when facing cancer. I’m living because of the research and treatments funds raised during Relay For Life have supported.”

Cynthia Denault, -Saint-Jérôme, Quebec and breast cancer survivor

“I was so moved by the Survivors’ Victory Lap at Relay For Life. There is nothing quite like being cheered on by participants and sharing a moment of gratitude with other cancer survivors. We all had different cancers but we all share the same appreciation for what the Canadian Cancer Society is doing.”

Cathy Telfer, Chatham, Ontario resident and melanoma survivor

“By participating and fundraising during Relay For Life, we all get one step closer to stopping cancer from taking more of our loved ones. I feel like Arif waited for us to finish the Relay For Life event so that we could honour him. It was a sad time in our lives, but it was great to have the feeling of support from our community.”

Zahra Khakoo, Calgary, Alberta resident and wife of Arif, who passed away from oral cancer
