Questions & Answers About Our Two Seminaries

Q: What makes Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary distinct from other American seminaries?

A: Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary is recognized nationally for its unique formation of future priests. While attending the seminary, each man is immersed in the Four Dimensions of Formation – spiritual, human, intellectual, and pastoral – which prepares them for the lifelong demands of the priesthood.

The seminarians are also a tremendous blessing to our communities. While attending the seminary, they perform the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. Whether visiting hospital patients, engaging in prison ministry, comforting the elderly, befriending the homeless, working in schools, or assisting in parishes, our seminarians are making Christ present and alive to others.

Q: How is Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary unique in its approach?

A: Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary is unique in its formation due to its internationality of 27 seminarians, who come from 12 different countries, and its missionary spirit. St. Paul says " are all one in Christ." (Gal 3:28) The men experience that in Christianity, all enjoy the same dignity, even though they come from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. It is the Spirit of the risen Christ that creates true communion. They are formed as diocesan and missionary priests willing to serve the universal Church anywhere there is a need.

While both seminaries share the same academics, the Neocatechumenal Way offers seminarians at Redemptoris Mator an itinerary of formation into an adult faith in a concrete Christian community within a particular local parish.

Q: What procedures do our seminaries mandate to ensure that each candidate is honorable, trustworthy and psychologically stable?

A: The Archdiocese of Denver requires various steps to ensure that a safe environment remains a top priority in our parishes, schools, and affiliated institutions.  To accomplish these objectives, each potential seminarian must agree to the following:

• Sessions with trained professionals who administer psychological tests that address his emotional health, family background, and psycho-sexual health

• A criminal background check

• Completion of the Safe Environment training program
