Hello everyone! My name is Rodrigo Velasco-Hernandez, and I am delighted to be the Co-Director of Junior Civitian Region 2. I'm incredibly excited to attend All-In-Summit 2023 and raise funds for the Civitan International Research Center. I've never been so fortunate to witness the enthusiasm and dedication that comes with being a Junior Civitan.

I am currently a senior at Golden Gate High School and a dual student at Florida Southwestern State College. Junior Civitan was one of many clubs I joined as a freshman in high school. Although I had no idea what to anticipate, the supportive and collaborative environment of the club and organization provided an outlet for my commitment and desire to contribute in a professional realm to make the world a better place. Outside of Junior Civitan, I am the Secretary General of my school's Model United Nations club, the Vice President of my school's Junior Civitan club, and the Treasurer of my school's Student Government Association. Aside from academics, I am a 4th-year varsity tennis player and Boy's Captain for the 2022-2023 season, as well as a 3rd-year varsity swimmer and Co-Captain for the 2022-2023 season. I'm also a Childcare worker at my local community center, with certifications from the Red Cross in First Aid/CPR/AED and the Florida Department of Children and Families in Childcare. To demonstrate that I am not a robot, my favorite color is tea green, I am an Aquarius, and I enjoy napping whenever I can.

Some information on the Civitan Internation Research Center is that in 1989, Civitan International pledged $20 million to establish the Civitan International Research Center (CIRC). The CIRC spans over 19 departments and 5 schools at UAB. In 2016, the CIRC's Rett Syndrome Clinic was recognized as a Clinical Research Center of Excellence for their groundbreaking work in the field of Rett Syndrome. Since it first opened, the CIRC has become an international pioneer in the study and care of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities treating over 25,000 patients.
