Sign the petition: California must divest from the Dakota Access Pipeline

California is leading the nation and the world on the fight against climate change and for a clean energy economy. We shouldn’t be investing in dirty fossil fuels to fund our future, but rather, we should invest in the green economy we are building here in California.

CalPERS, our state retirement fund, alone owns 1.1 million shares of Energy Transfer Partners, the company building this dirty oil pipeline. By passing AB 20 and divesting our public funds we can send a powerful message that California opposes the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Send your Assembly member a message to divest CalPERS and CalSTERS from the Dakota Access Pipeline. Take action now.

Dear Assemblymember,

On January 24th, President Trump issued an Executive Order intended to resume construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL.) This pipeline threatens the health of the Standing Rock Sioux and communities all along its path.

California should not profit by investing in projects like DAPL, which defy our state's commitment to clean energy, combating climate change, and investing in a green economy. Yet CalPERS alone owns 1.1 million shares of Energy Transfer Partners, the company constructing this pipeline.

We need to invest our public funds wisely. I urge you to support AB 20 and require CalPERS and CalSTRS to divest from the Dakota Access Pipeline, just as they were required to divest from thermal coal.

Sincerely,
