York has a “closed” primary system. That means that only people who are
registered in a particular party can vote in that party’s primary. A
voter cannot just show up at a polling place on April 19 and be able to
register and vote in a party primary. And in New York, the deadline to change
or declare party enrollment so as to be able to vote in the April 19
presidential primary was wildly early: October 9, 2015!
Tell your Assembly Member
and State Senator: We need just one registration and enrollment deadline -
25 days for both registration and party enrollment!
If you take action and have not already registered, you will receive periodic updates and communications from Common Cause.
