The ability for Coloradans to access and analyze public records is an important tool to engage and influence government decisions.
Unfortunately, public records that are kept in databases and spreadsheets are often released in PDF files or as printed documents--making the process of analyzing the data extremely difficult.
Senate Bill 40 would bring our state's open records laws into the 21st century by giving Coloradans access to public documents in a usable format. The bill was crafted by a bipartisan working group convened by the Secretary of State, which worked to resolve issues that prevented similar legislation from passing in previous years.
Please use this form to urge your Colorado State Senator to vote YES on Senate Bill 40.
