Voting brings us together as Americans. But it isn’t always easy to make it to the polls on the one day we hold elections – Tuesday is a work day and often a day full of rushing to child care, after school sports and maybe a commute out of state to work. It is not surprising that election officials are often overwhelmed at peak times. Early voting would encourage more voters to participate and supports our democracy. No excuse absentee ballots would securely allow voters to cast ballots without having to travel to a polling place. Please tell the Connecticut Government Administration and Elections Committee why you support pro-voter reforms! Here's how to submit a powerful message:· Start by introducing yourself, with your name, and where you live or your legislative district.· State your support for any (or all) of the pro-voter reforms pending (see links for text of the bills):HJ5 Resolution Proposing an Amendment to the State Constitution to Allow Early VotingHJ13 Resolution Proposing an Amendment to the State Constitution to Permit Early VotingHJ34 Resolution Proposing an Amendment to the State Constitution Permitting Early Voting and Voting By MailHJ95 Resolution Proposing a State Constitutional Amendment to Permit Early and Regional Voting· Briefly share why you think it’s important that our elections should be more accessible to voters (one reason is enough, more is ok!)· Close with a thank-you!
If you take action and have not already registered, you will receive periodic updates and communications from Common Cause.
