Tell your Oregon Legislators to Pass Small Donor Matching

Petition:

We, the people of Oregon, call on our legislature to pass House Bill 2578 to establish small donor matching for our elections.

Right now, our democracy is out of balance. Candidates are incentivized to rely on big-money contributions from the wealthiest contributors to raise enough money to run competitive campaigns. They are often forced to spend long hours calling wealthy special interests to ask them for money.

Small-donor matching is a tested reform that changes that. By matching and amplifying small contributions from everyday constituents, candidates are able to fuel competitive campaigns without relying on special interest money. Candidates are able to spend more time listening to constituent concerns, rather than dialing for special interest dollars. And since candidates no longer need access to networks of wealthy donors to get elected, Oregonians of all backgrounds have an equal opportunity to run for office, empowering a more diverse group of candidates to represent all our communities.

Small donor matching puts everyone on an equal footing, making sure that all voices are heard, and that every person is included in conversations about our state’s future. House Bill 2578 is the reform that we need to make our democracy work for all Oregonians.
