Walk Strong to Cure JM

Fight with Fish

Hello everyone!

My name is Sammie Fish and I want to share my #FightwithFish journey with y'all.

I was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis in June of 2017 at the age of 14, I was entering my sophomore year of high school. I am currently 21 and finishing up my senior year at the University of Cincinnati. My JDM journey has always been a difficult one, however, I was able to stay active and play the sports I love including softball and golf. In most cases, this is not an opportunity for kids with JDM.  This made it hard to understand how I was able to stay so active and work  through the pain. After multiple treatments and medication changes I was able to enter medical remission in November of 2019. There were a few flares and difficult times along the way and eventually we discovered that entering complete remission may not be in my future, I may always have to rely on medicines and deal with their side effects. We're not giving up! After graduation we are going to try one more time to back off my medicines. I have never let my JDM hold me back and I'm very excited to be in the home stretch of completing my life long goal of becoming a teacher! I want to share my story to help so many others battle JDM.

Please join OUR fight and become a member of the #FightwithFish team.

Help us give children hope for a brighter future.

Every dollar makes a difference to improve treatments, care, and support for juvenile myositis.

Juvenile myositis is a life-threatening disease which causes children to miss out on the best part of being a kid.

There are currently no approved treatments.  Current treatments save lives, but have devastating side-effects.  Together we can change that.

Please make a donation to help me reach my goal.   Your gift advances our fight against this disease.
